September 16, 2017 ~ St. Peregrine Laziosi Diocesan Shrine. The OSM Family (First, Second and Third Orders of the Order of Servants of Mary) of the St. Peregrine Philippine Vicariate celebrated the Solemnity of Our Lady of Sorrows September 15, 2017, starting with the Via Matris led by Rev Fr Nady Ma. The Via Matris or Way of the Sorrowful Mother, started at 4:30 in the afternoon. As the congregation make their way through the 7 stations representing the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Gospel reading, reflection and prayer was read by selected members of the OSM Friar-Brothers and OSSM. The Via Matris is a tradition initiated by the Servites and brought the Way of the Mother in its present form before the public. Its origin lies buried in the obscurity of the Middle Ages.
The Feast Day Mass followed the Via Matris at 6:30 in the evening presided over by Rev Fr Deogracias Ma. Alejandria, Jr., OSM concelebrated by the OSM Priests (Rev Fr Zacarias Ma. Tampus, OSM, Rev Fr Marciano Ma. Doloroso, OSM, Rev Fr Michael Angelo Ma. Baco, OSM, Rev Fr Pascual Ma. Salas, OSM, Rev Fr Edgar Ma. Benedi-an, OSM, Rev Fr Warren Ma. The Feast Day of Our Lady of Sorrows is commemorated as an optional memorial by most Catholics however, being the Principal Patroness of the Order of Servants of Mary, the Servites has been granted special permission to celebrate this feast as a Solemnity, giving honor to the Seven Sorrows of Mary.
